This photography series was taken while enjoying a day at Huntington Beach. It was my first trip to the beach in 8 years, after being swallowed by the injustice system and serving a 7 1/2-year prison term.
The power of the crashing waves and the sound of the water is something I missed deeply while behind those walls. The vastness of the Pacific Ocean, the crashing of the waves, and the beauty of the sun shimmering like gold on the sand, at sunset, has the power to be so freeing. I saw some of the most beautiful sunsets in prison, and in them I always felt transported, somewhere far beyond the walls that tried to confine me. What I love most about sunsets is the idea that no matter where we are in the world, we are all connected and sun-kissed by God's beauty and goodness.
